After more than four years of preparations, the first three four-legged jacket foundations were loaded out at Lindø Industripark last week, passing Kronborg on their way to the Wikinger Offshore Wind Farm 34 km north of the island Rügen in Germany. Many more barges will follow over the summer.

Cowi is working with Royal Bam Group on the development of an innovative gravity base foundation for offshore wind turbines that will be used on the Blyth offshore windfarm in the UK. The foundation design will utilise self-installing foundations developed by two Bam companies, Bam Nuttall Ltd and BAM Infra. The design is being undertaken by Bam Infraconsult, for whom Cowi has been providing assistance with geotechnical interpretation and load definition since 2015.

Nine of the largest offshore wind power developers in Europe are clubbing together with the Scottish government to invest some £8m ($10.3m) to fund development of new technologies that will cement the levelised cost of energy (LCoE) from the resource at under £100/MWh by 2020.
