Research team to develop remote inspection and repair technology for offshore windfarms

Remote controlled vehicles have long been used offshore – now scientists are looking at their potential in the offshore wind industry, as Andrew Williams explains

In early February, a UK research consortium announced that it had been awarded a £4 million grant to create remote inspection and repair technologies using robotics and autonomous systems. So, what exactly will the project entail? What robotics and autonomous systems (RAS) technologies might be developed? And what are the potential applications in the offshore wind energy sector?
